Visit Pompeii, a town-city that holds an intense fascination for tourists. After the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., what was formerly a lively place was lost and forgotten until its accidental rediscovery in 1738 by men working on a foundation for the construction of a foundation for a summer palace for Charles of Bourbon.
Explore the town that is high on the list of the Wonders of the World and see the excavations that began in the 18th century and still being continued today. Let our guide take you through some of the ancient streets where you can see Baths, Forums and Villas built by the Romans in the year 80 B.C. This archeological site will surely impress anybody with the city's reputation for greatness in its day to the magnificent frescoes adorning the walls and floors of the Villas and have been well-preserved.
After exploring the archeological site, we will then visit the volcano which caused Pompeii and its neighboring towns to be forgotten. We will visit Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in the mainland of Europe and the coach will take us within 1000 meters of the top of the volcano. From here, we can walk to the very top and admire the splendid views across the bay. See its slopes, once covered with vineyards and woods, providing a spectacular backdrop for the bustling town below.
